I didn't get the position i was applying for in Ayala Foundation, i don't know why but they chose someone else. While i was waiting in the reception area to be called for the final i noticed that there were other people who were applying for the same position i was, one thing i noted is that they were all older than me (maybe on their late 20's or early 30's).
I was pondering why i didn't get it, several things came into mind namely: that i was not experienced enough compared to the other applicants, i was asking for such a large starting pay (hell! i'm getting 17k now, why should i settle for something less?), i can't start right away ( i need 30 days notice before i can start), but what if i just plainly didn't make the cut?
This shouldn't bother me that much as i've had a lot of experience being rejected, but i was so sure that i would get it basing on the reaction of the interviewers and my confidence in my self and in my skills. I guess I'll just have to endure staying here at my present job for the time being.
I'm so bored right now, yesterday my boss asked me what my output was so that he could read it, i then began to change the subject and he unwittingly forgot what he was asking me. I wanted to tell him "eh, wala ka naman pinapagawa eh, anong gusto mo ipakita ko sayo?" but that would be unprofessional of me.
I found this game called "dink smallwood" if you ever played Legend of Zelda you would enjoy this game. Yes, the main character's name is Dink (a play on original Link of the Legend of Zelda).
Also found a list of open source and freeware programs from this link.
Thank God for Open Source software, its free and it certainly can stand up to commercially available software. Which brings me to something I've read this past few weeks:
Gratis vs. Libre
Gratis refers to things that come with no cost (i.e. free beer), while Libre denotes the state of freedom (i.e. freedom of speech). Open source software both enjoy this.
Now aren't you glad that some things in life are still free?

raise
started the day with an interview for the Ayala Foundation, I applied as a Development Associate for the GILAS project. The interview was scheduled at 9am, fortunately I was able to make it on time. I think I impressed the project manager with the interview, she informed me that it was down to three candidates, me included. The position entailed a lot (90%) of fund raising, which honestly, I am not that comfortable with.
When I got back to the office at around 10:20, my boss asked me to step into his office, to my surprise I was given a raise and I am now a regular in the office, so thats makes us two so far. The funny thing is with the regularization my withholding tax increased by 5% and I incurred deductions for SSS, Pag-Ibig, and Philhealth, so how much raise did I get? If you subtract everything from my pay I got a whopping 104 peso raise. Good thing I wasn't deducted for my absence and lates.
Now I'm confused, I want to get out of my present work because of my boss, not necessarily the job, actually the job is not that hard once you get the hang of it. But someone told me that working for the Ayala Foundation is not what I expect, if they atleast match what I am getting right now I may accept their offer, if they decide to hire me. But as of now, I'll try to tackle one problem at a time, I have to focus on the LOVE E.A.R.T.H forum to be held in Tagaytay.

multo!
i thought a saw a ghost earlier, i actually thought that it was the ghost i was hiding from, but unlike the first time i saw this ghost i was now prepared to face it.
Though it turned out that it wasn't, i know realized that i am ready to face this ghost when the time comes.

thank god for torrents
Yesterday I was finally able to watch the movies I downloaded at the office, so here's three of the movies I was able to watch:
CASHBACK

SYNOPSIS: When art student Ben Willis is dumped by his girlfriend Suzy, he develops insomnia. To pass the long hours of the night, he starts working the late night shift at the local supermarket. There he meets a colorful cast of characters, all of whom have their own 'art' in dealing with the boredom of an eight-hour-shift. Ben's art is that he imagines himself stopping time. This way, he can appreciate the artistic beauty of the frozen world and the people inside it - especially Sharon, the quiet checkout girl, who perhaps holds the answer to solving the problem of Ben's insomnia.
REVIEW: rottentomatoes.com actually gave this movie a 48% rating, but despite that I enjoyed this movie, its like a british version of a kevin smith movie. Yes, theres nudity in it, but i think its done i a tasteful manner.
THANK YOU FOR SMOKING
SYNOPSIS: Jason Reitman has learned well. The son of director-producer Ivan Reitman (STRIPES, GHOSTBUSTERS) makes a strong impact with his debut feature film, the hysterical THANK YOU FOR SMOKING. Based on the wry novel by Christopher Buckley, THANK YOU FOR SMOKING is set in the fascinating world of Washington spin, where, more often than not, money trumps politics and morals. Aaron Eckhart (IN THE COMPANY OF MEN, ERIN BROCKOVICH) is outstanding as Nick Naylor, the public spokesman for Big Tobacco. The blond pretty boy has no problem whatsoever going on television and telling people that smoking can actually be good for them. He meets regularly with the M.O.D. Squad -- fellow Merchants of Death Polly Bailey (Maria Bello), who represents the alcohol business, and Bobby Jay Bliss (David Koechner), who defends firearms -- where they fight over who has the more difficult job based on the number of deaths their respective industries are responsible for. The smooth-talking Naylor's next big adversary is Vermont senator Ortolan Finistirre (William H. Macy), who is calling for the government to place a skull and crossbones and the word "Poison" on all cigarette boxes. At the same time, Naylor is sent out to Hollywood to make a deal with high-powered agent Jeff Megall (Rob Lowe) to get more stars to smoke in movies, like in the good old days. All the while, Naylor is trying to establish a better relationship with his young son, Joey (Cameron Bright), without playing down his highly questionable job. The strong cast also includes Kim Dickens as Naylor's ex-wife, J.K. Simmons as his boss, Katie Holmes as a sexy reporter, Sam Elliott as the former Marlboro Man now dying of lung cancer, and Robert Duvall as the Captain, an old-time tobacco chief who takes Naylor under his wings. THANK YOU FOR SMOKING is a very funny satire that will leave audiences gasping for breath from laughing so hard.
REVIEW: A very funny and intelligent movie, its not a glorification of smoking and big tobacco, but rather a story of a son and his father. Despite Nick Naylor's obvious immoral character, you can't help but like him.
THE VIRGIN SUICIDES

SYNOPSIS: based on the 1993 novel by Jeffrey Eugenides, THE VIRGIN SUICIDES tells the dreamlike tale of the Lisbons, a family living in a sheltered 1970s suburbia. When Cecilia (Hannah Hall), the youngest of the five teenage Lisbon daughters, inexplicably commits suicide, the rest of the family--Mr. Lisbon (James Woods), an awkward high school math teacher; Mrs. Lisbon (Kathleen Turner), a stern, humorless housewife; and the four remaining sisters: Lux (Kirsten Dunst), Bonnie (Chelse Swain), Mary (A.J. Cook), and Therese (Leslie Hayman)--recedes into a morbid cloud of repression and denial. As the girls are forced to retreat from everyday life by their conservative mother, they become the subject of fascination for a group of neighborhood boys, who narrate the story and hope to rescue the girls from their listless confinement.
The first feature by director-screenwriter Sofia Coppola (Francis Ford Coppola's daughter), THE VIRGIN SUICIDES is a mesmerizingly atmospheric film that perfectly captures both the moody tone of the book and the light-saturated feel of the 1970s. Dunst gives a standout performance as the promiscuous Lux, who becomes the sole obsession of high school ladies' man Trip Fontaine (Josh Hartnett). The movie also includes cameos by Danny DeVito and Scott Glenn. In addition to songs by Heart and Todd Rundgren, the film features an evocative score by the French duo Air.
REVIEW: Four words: "A Work of Art."
For tonight, two hilarious Edgar Wright movies, Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead.

after the dust has settled
what a hectic month.
after three successive events for September i suddenly find myself with nothing left to do.
i fell ill again after all those activities, must be from the stress and the ever changing weather we're having. i didn't report for work yesterday due to the fact that i wasn't able to get enough sleep again caused by my incessant coughing.
i rarely get to office on time (my average arrival time is now 9am, despite work starting at 8am). i lost all drive to go to work, now my only motivation for showing up is for the pay, not that big, but it gets me through everyday without having to rely on anybody else.
i suddenly realized that after work, i have no life, i have no life outside work, i guess thats true not only for me but for a lot of people running the daily rat race. i'm just contenting myself to harnessing the power of our dsl connection, in other words DOWNLOANDS!!! i've recently filled my 30gb mp3 player with more that 20gigs of songs, and i'm filling my cultural appetite with downloaded movies. Recently i've been able to watch Donnie Darko, the History Boys, Accepted, Fast Times at Ridgemont High (yeah phoebe cates takes off her top), and trainspotting, i've been a frequent visitor to rotten tomatoes trying to find out which good movies i should download.
for now thats whats filling up my time, i'm just waiting for the long vacation come the end of the month...for now i'll just have to find ways to kill time
